October 16, 1758 hardly seems like a current event but this date marks the birthday of the great man of dictionary fame, Noah Webster. Where would we be today without this great American. Mr. Noah Webster is probably the only American ever born who knew when to use 'who' and 'whom'. He was so confident in his ability to know the difference he wrote a book about it. As good as he was, he was terrible at identifying animals. I have an old "Webster's Dictionary" that was printed in 1894. Poor old Noah couldn't tell the difference between a chimpanzee and an orangutan. In fact he thought an orangutan was an orang-outang. This is the man that also included etymologies in his book. For those of you who/whom don't own one of his books, etymology is the history of a word. I guess history changes from time to time. I still don't know when to use who or whom. I looked it up in his book. It says whom is the object of who. That's a good question. Who is the object of what? I'd say Noah Webster was more confused than I am at this moment.

A high school principal has decreed that Captain Underpants has no place in an institution of learning. Three 17-year-old girls were told to leave Long Beach High School on Wednesday after they showed up on Superhero Day costumed as the subject of the best-selling children's books, Captain Underpants. It seems Paris and former Miss USA and ex girlfriend of Oscar de la Hoya, Shanna Moakler, mixed it up in a Los Angeles nightclub earlier this week. Then, Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos, shoved Shanna down some stairs. That Paris is beginning to be a regular at the Los Angeles police station. A few weeks ago they hauled her sorry ass in on drunk driving charges and now she is back again for fighting. I guess all that cow milking she did on "The Simple Life" has lead her to believe she is a tough chick. Who knows what's next for pretty little Paris. I'm not making any of this stuff up either. This is better than any episode of "The Simple Life". I am just wondering who will get custody of Tinkerbell when they haul Paris off to the bighouse. The L.A. police have a tough job, too. Can you imagine having to take crime scene pictures of those two? I know I can.

It seems Jennifer Wilbanks, "The Runaway Bride", is suing her former fiance for defrauding her of her share of the proceeds from a book deal about their adventure. I don't know about you but I am a little confused by this whole story. First she argues over a vacuum cleaner and a ladder that her fiance took from their wedding gifts. I mean, what kind of person gives a ladder for a wedding gift? I can just hear the bride when she opened the giftwrapped ladder. "Oh thank you Aunt Pauline. This ladder will really come in handy when I want to crawl out a second story window." Now she is suing her fiance for buying a house. She seems to think she should get half of the house. I may be mistaken but this sounds more like a divorce settlement than the settlement of a wedding that never happened. My guess is she will next be suing some poor child in New Mexico for not giving her part of his lunch money. What I really think she should ask for in a lawsuit is a 5 gallon gas can and a new lawn mower and weedwhacker. She has a lot of community service to do mowing the court house lawn.
