 How we cross the street, 2011 funny pictures - This is my first entry for this site. I have been working with photoshop since version 1.0 used to fit entirely on a single floppy disk, and I appeared in O'Reilly books about photoshop techniques back in the 90s. As such, I expect to get heavy criticism and heavily dissed by noobs that have no clue about professional work. It's all good, this is a hobby and for fun. With this image, I had no idea how to proceed creatively at first, so I simply started by getting rid of the old codger. Obviously, folks were going to turn the old transit lady into godzilla or a space alien or whatnot, so I decided not to go there. It was more an exercise of zen, a distraction, not creative but sitting down with the cloning tool to just occupy myself retouching the old woman out of the photo entirely. As I worked with the image, I thought it would be fun to add some other crossing guards in the background, which I did. Later, I was having problems getting the stairs and doors in the background to clean up, so I wanted to add something to the foreground, so I searched through clip art looking for people walking. The random discovery of the two Japanese hipster chicks walking along texting was a perfect addition to an image with the crossing guard removed from the intersection. This is how we live as humanity in 2011, crossing the street texting, against the light, with no crossing guard to be found. And we somehow persist and survive. In high style. / Nice. Maybe some shadow/shading to pin the girls down. Why are their eyes blurry. / thanks. the source image of the girls had their eyes blurred out, and was in harsh bright sunlight, i did layers of dodge/burn by hand and also a pass at brightness/contrast and some other filter that adjusted shadows and midtones. obviously it's not on but it came most of the way there, i wasn't going to finesse it. one of my best friends is a photo retouching expert, he saw this on facebook and caned me immediately for poor form. crusader234... saw some of your images, yes, very polished, excellent style. good to know that a percentage of the people on here are really tight with their technique; it's obvious many aren't. it's all fun. cheers. / Thanks for the compliment, I too aspire to be as good as some of the regular artists on this site, maybe in a few hundred years.... but as you said, its all fun |
