The theft news of Van Gogh "Poppy Flowers" painting on August 21 from a Cairo museum left the art lovers in a state of shock. Van Gogh Poppy Flowers is considered of worth $50 million. According to the police report poor security arrangements at the museum helped the thieves steal the masterpiece - e.g. only 16 of 55 security cameras were functioning and most paintings were displayed without any attached alarm system. Van Gogh "Poppy Flowers" was previously stolen from the same museum in 1978 but it was recovered 10 years later in Kuwait. The painting went through some serious restoration after it suffered damages "in captivity", before it was returned on display at the Cairo museum. Let us remind that in May 2010, five paintings valued at close to $124 million and including works by Picasso and Matisse were stolen from one of Paris's most prestigious museums - the Paris Museum of Modern Art.
