The British town of Sandwich is celebrating the moment when the food that bears its name came into existence. It was 250 years ago on May 15, 1762, when John Montagu, Fourth Earl of Sandwich, called for a slice of beef between two toasted pieces of bread so that he could continue to play cards and his friends asked "to have the same as Sandwich". Nowadays sandwiches are so popular that most big countries even have national Sandwich Associations. Yes, they really exist.
