Born as Alecia Beth Moore, she chose the stage name Pink, which was from Steve Buscemi's character in the 1992 movie Reservoir Dogs. Here's a part of the movie script, where the band is given their color names:
Mr. Pink: Why am I Mr. Pink?
Joe: 'Cause you're a faggot, alright?
Mr. Pink: How about if I'm Mr. Purple? That sounds good to me, I'll be Mr. Purple.

It's all about pink today, which is considered girls' favorite color (also the favorite color of the Pink Panther and Barney the Dinosaur).
