The super moon was today blamed for causing five ships to run aground off the British coast as the lunar phenomenon lowered tides. The moon was at its closest to the earth for 19 years and some believe it may also have triggered Japan's tsunami, although astronomers have dismissed the claims as pure nonsense.
A British coastguard spokesman said a 25 foot yacht had also run aground and three other vessels were also marooned by the unexpected turn of events.
He said: "We checked them all and there were no injuries, just some surprise at being caught out like this. Blame it on the Moon."

Depending on the location, late night December 20 or early morning December 21, the full moon will be darkened by Earth's shadow as our planet passes between it and the sun. December 21 is also the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, after which the days will begin to grow longer. Coupled with the lunar spectacle, it means we're in for an especially dark eve. Last time the winter solstice and full lunar eclipse happened at the same time was 456 years ago.
Let's recall that a full lunar eclipse saved Christopher Columbus on February 29, 1504. Columbus correctly calculated the day of the eclipse and when his crew ran out of food and faced hostile local inhabitants in Jamaica, he told the locals that if they do not cooperate he would make the moon disappear. After Columbus "made the moon disappear", locals begged him to return the moon to the sky, for any food and supplies he would need.

New Moon, the long-anticipated sequel to Twilight, is opening in theaters worldwide this Friday. In Australia and Europe, where it already opened, New Moon's midnight results were the highest grossing midnight screening since Star Wars: Episode 3. The third installment of the Twilight saga is already in production and the fourth is in the plans. New Moon is not getting good reviews from the movie critics, but fans love it, and the critics say - you'd have to do much worse to end this crush.

On July 16, NASA made a statement that "the original recordings of the first humans landing on the moon 40 years ago were erased". In fact in 2006 NASA said that, all of a sudden, "over 700 BOXES of transmission tape from Apollo are missing". NASA has been searching for these tapes for three years, and on July 16 told the world that it found out what happened to these recordings - they got erased by mistake.
Well, that's quite surprising isn't it? There's a speculation, that NASA people are "full of wit" and that the tapes got erased because the whole Moon landing was staged and filmed hoax, and
now they decided to get rid of the evidence. Well, not to worry,
folks, FreakingNews is here to save the world yet again.

Lunar phase days were also linked to werewolves, vampires, and witches. Police officers and emergency room staff nowadays consider full moon days especially unlucky and full of crimes and accidents.

Latest ambitions of Russian President Vladimir Putin are no longer contained within this planet. As part of the renewed space program, Russian space agency announced that it plans to send their cosmonauts to the Moon and establish a permanent astronaut base there.
Russia's space program has suffered a dramatic decline in the 90s due to a lack of funds. Since 2001 Russia started taking space tourists on their space missions with tickets selling for about $30 million. It has also launched satellites for other countries. Such role of Russia as a "space taxi" helped make solid financial injections into their space program over the last 6 years.
Photoshop anything connected to a Russian mission to the Moon. Examples may include showing how Russians would explore the Moon if they landed on it during the Soviet Union era, or nowadays. What if Russians were the first men on the Moon, superseding America? Show the photos of Russian moon missions and what a Russian moon base may look like. These are just some ideas, the "sky" is the limit.
