DeadDog brings up a point that deserves examination only because per voting guidelines, I am not sure it's true. "Should have scorred higher" Aesthetically I agree 100%. But aesthetics are but a percent of what we judge in these things. I'll be blunt. "Should have done more work" The top three have no less than 16 sources and by my count at least 20 layers Minimun. Clearly a lot of time went in and dues were paid. My entry alone took about 7-8 hrs. As striking a chop as Sunshin produced, it does not match the intensive hours represented by the other top chops. So, I can blow smoke up sunshin's drawers or show the greatest kindness and say work harder. Rely less on the brilliance of source art and more on your own brilliance in art full composition and compilation. That applies to us all. So, I think the voting was pretty good this time. I missed a call or two but think people are paying closer attention and voting with a more professional eye. A lot of the big guns have stepped away for a bit and in doing so has forced many of you to step in and run for the gold. The quality is fast rising and a bunch of you are impressing the ---out of me, Sunshin here for one. Always remember that one little advice you first read when you come here about spending an extra ten or 15 min can mean the difference between winning or loosing. We'll it takes more than 15 mins these days as the talent has grown considerably since that was written. But the principle is sound. Put in the time and genius that you have in such abundance. A zillion sources and lots of hours doesn't always mean extra points on a chop. At the end of the day, how a chop looks - composition wise, is it clean, what skills have been employed, is it a clever idea etc can make a chop do equally well with only a few sources. / Sunshin, you are doing excellent and are really improving. It's my playground too and thus scream if there is poop in the sand box, even if it was mine Well Mac, you make a point but there are legions of choppers here, you included, that have labored intensively for hours upon hours only to loose to a 20 minute head swap thought cleanly done. To be fair, you can't just vote the pretty factor. You have to factor in all voting criteria. I know you do but I want to make that very clear. Pretty is a fraction of the vote consideration Personally, if I spend all day making you dinner I expect a hearty well done even if it taste like blap... For the effort you know. So it is with chops. The point is, I don't have to win, I just want the correct acknowledgement for the correct ammount of effort, just like all of ya'll. I'm no different. So, if somebody clearly has 5- 10-15 hours in to a chop, a 5.5 or 6.2 or some such is just outright rude, invaladative, a terrible insult and should be scolded. FN is sooo much better than it was in what you guys call the good old days. Frankly, I look back at those score averages and I don't think I would have hung around. It was viscious voting to the point of insult sometimes. So, don't get me wrong, I am pretty happy to see folks being respectful and voting a much higher curve these days. Just stressing to vote for the right reasons. Effort time and skillfull manips should be a large part of the grade. However there is something quite inspiring about the chop that only took 20 mins, 2 sources and turned out to be a masterpiece. My 2 programs are old and very limiting and everything I have to lift is literally done by hand, no topaz masking 3 for me. / A lot of us use small programs, DD I use ARCSoft Photoexpression that came with a camera I bought in 1996 I think. I just got a new computer that is large enough to handle photoshop, just need to and set aside some $$ and a little patience to buy and learn CS5. I have a couple of plug-ins that are loaded in a crippled version of CS 2 that only work part of the time hahahah. Anytime you have a contest arena like this you are going to get clashes of artistic opinion and man, that is a great thing because it keeps us all thinking and keeps it fresh. I stress, perhaps too much, to just vote per the guidelines Vlad laid out, no more, no less. I think The voting system here is freaking remarkable, very workable, but as long as eveyone remains on the same page of rules. That's how you standardize stuff and keep organizational stuff on track. 7+ hours on chops is the exception, not the rule for most. From what I have gathered talking to many choppers 1-2 hours is an average. I think the concept and how you want to express it should govern how much time you spen on a piece. I think if your idea is good, it deserves whatever time it takes. That is the measure I use. / How about letting people vote "how they" interpret the voting guidelines, as everyone is different. Just remember, if a chef spends 8 hours making what he thinks is an awesome meal, he will still have customers returning their food or walking out if it comes out inedible. Hours of work on a chop shouldn't come into it. I vote on what I SEE.....not on how many hours I'm told it took to make. / DD I use Photoshop CS3 and I admit I use too topaz but I don't think it matters too much if somebody don't know to do at least good basic chops, my weak point as technology is that I had an old pc from 1000 mb ram speed the program use almost half so it sucks sometimes. Hitspinner I understand the voting guidelines but as you know for a 7 it is said 'It's much better than average, great idea and execution' not saying about how many sources and time just to look better than average and to be a good concept, it matters too how skilled are the entrants so...it matters to many reasons. Yes I admit the voting system is great, sometimes happens a bit of unfair voting but that's it nothing is perfect but I believe too the voting sistem is good and it is reflected on karma so it's doubled secured. I rely on my intuition when I vote and it seems to be fine because most of the time I have a good karma. Heavy Metal Guitar God funny pictures - This is another feeble attempt that I am submitting. Rock on dude. / I don't see this as a 'Feeble Attempt' at all. This is actually very good. If you added some darkening under his right arm, and mute the colors of the guitar just a bit to match the surroundings...it'd be perfect. Just trying to give some helpful advice. I'll reserve my vote until editing can be done, if you wish to do some. / JannaR is right about the colors. The fretboard, tuning keys and nameplate are too bright for Degas, and need to tone down and warm up. / very nice but i agree with JannaR and Alligator. The guitar is a bit too bright for the surroundings.

Perhaps the blending gives the appearance that the jacket is floating. I have adjusted the colour of the foreground and background vegetation to give it a bit more depth and separation. / this look so good, but i'm just don't know why the lower part of the "metal jacket" are not complete. / i think skorp had a point. and you also had a point. good point guys. / Great entry.. Looking at the entry and the source, I do see what Skorpion is talking about. On the sourcepic, there are grey pants on the bottom of the jacket. In your entry, you left part of the pants attached to the jacket. You should be able to see the rest of the pants peeking through the leaves, or remove the remnants of the pants you have on there. / I had the grey pants completely hidden when the first comment was made. I thought by bumping it up a few pixels to show that the jacket was complete would solve this perception. The decision of showing parts of the pants through the vegetation in the foreground came down to whether the vegetation was slight and permitted this or if it was heavy and obstructed all objects behind it. I opted for the latter but I appreciate the critiques. / Thanks for the comments and votes everyone.
