Alaska Day is observed every year on October 18 in anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States which happened in Fort Sitka on October 18, 1867. Prior to this formal transfer, Alaska was sold by Russians for $7,200,000 on March 30, 1867.
Alaska employees get a paid day off on Alaska Day.
