Funny Warhol 2015

Warhol 2015
This Thursday, August 6 is the 87th birthday of the "father of pop-art" Andy Warhol. Andrew Warhola (his real name) was an American with Slovak roots and worked as advertisement illustrator for Vogue and other magazines, before becoming famous. Andy coined the phrase "15 minutes of fame", but there's a rumor that he was dyslexic and he really meant 51 minutes :) To mark the 87th birthday of Andy Warhol, take any photo or art work (painting, sketch, illustration), and turn it into Warhol-like pop art, or show how his art would look if Warhol created it these days. Many thanks to LunaC for the themepost.

Funny Escher 2015

Escher 2015
June 17 is the 117th birthday of Maurtis Cornelis Escher - one of the most famous and recognizable artists in history. Escher's unique vision of the world combined art, patterns, and mathematics to create some of the physically impossible yet realistically looking illustrations, like "Waterfall" and "Ascending and Descending". Quite like some of his famous predecessors, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, Escher was a left handed artist. In addition to many famous drawings which, Escher also illustrated books, designed tapestries, and even was hired by the Dutch government to design new Dutch money in the 50s (the banknotes were finally not approved for being too "twisted"). The total count of Escher's works during his lifetime is over 2000. Photoshop any of Escher's works any way you wish. Some examples are: show what his works would be like if he created them nowadays, merge his works and any other famous works of art, give famous movie posters Escher's style and theme, etc. Many thanks to LunaC for the themepost.

Funny Dali 2015

Dali 2015
This Monday, May 11th, is the 111th birthday of Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali. While his painting skills were influenced by the masters of Renaissance, Dali used a lot of hidden symbolism in his art. For example, in Dali's most famous painting - The Persistence of Memory - the soft watches symbolize Einstein's theory that time is relative and not fixed. To celebrate the 111th birthday of the world's most famous surrealist artist Salvador Dali, show what his art would be like if he created it these days. What modern elements would be included in Dali's paintings? Would he be doing advertisements, distorting celebrities, or maybe or even creating posters for movies? Many thanks to Xaos54 for the themepost.

Funny Raphael 2015

Raphael 2015
April 6 is the birthday of Raphael Sanzio - one of the greatest Renaissance artists. Raphael came from a poor family and became an orphan at the age of 11. His poor origin could not keep him from getting great art schooling (at Botticelli studio) and becoming one of the favorite artists of The Catholic Church and those in power. His paintings of saints and Christian scenes had so much life in them - the characters looked so real and "human" yet so divine. Ironically, Raphael died very young - his 37th birthday. But the heritage he left will go on forever. Show how Rahpael's art would be different if he created it nowadays. Many thanks to Evirio for the themepost.

Funny Van Gogh 2015

Van Gogh 2015
March 30 marked the 162nd birthday of one of the most famous artists of all time, Vincent Willem van Gogh. The Dutch Post-Impressionist artist who produced some of the world's priciest masterpieces spent his life as not a wealthy man. After trying careers as an art dealer, teacher, and even a preacher, Van Gogh became a self-taught artist at the age of 27 and produced over 2000 paintings in his life time, the most famous ones in his last two years. Ironically his art was unpopular at the time; Van Gogh hardly sold any of his works during his own life, and lived as a "starving artist" relying on a modest monthly income from his brother Theo. Show how Van Gogh's art would be different if he created it nowadays. Some examples are - modernize his paintings by including modern objects, sceneries, or people; commercialize his works by turning them into advertisements for modern products; turn them into billboards, etc. These are just some ideas. Many thanks to preemiememe for the themepost.
