| | Although the election itself is nearly two years away, the race for the next President of the United States clearly is now underway. Hawaii is home to a grass roots movement designed to draft Senator Barack Obama of Illinois to run for the Presidency. Brian Schatz, a former Hawaiian state representative, spoke for the Hawaii steering committee of the Draft Obama movement. He said that the time had come for new leadership, new energy as well as new approaches. He stated that Obama represented the best choice for the nation and for the world. Hawaiians who want to see Obama run for President are asked to sign a petition at DraftObama.org. At the present time, there are approximately 40 states which do have a movement working to build support for Obama. If he happened to be elected President of the United States, Obama would be the first Hawaii born President ever. He was born in Hawaii in August of 1961. He also went to school there. His parents actually met one another at the University of Hawaii. His grandmother continues to live in Hawaii. Obama actually plans to spend the holiday season in Hawaii this year. |
