Clocks

Contest Directions:  Past Sunday at 2 am America turned clocks back an hour ago - this ended the daylight saving time for this year. Europe adjusted clocks a week ago - they call it "summer time". The daylight saving time convention started in 1907 to use natural light for an extra hour and conserve energy.
In this contest you are asked to design new watches and clocks (sundials, hourglass are OK too) from other things, or redesign existing watches and clocks (or sundials, and hourglass) with some unusual elements. Here's a good example by AZRainman.

This contest is fueled by the following news:
Some interesting facts about modern watches: New prestigious brands usually begin to release limited editions exclusively, without releasing mass products. In recent years feeling a shift in demand more and more removed from ordinary customers, strives to take into account the requests of mini-groups of connoisseurs and the complex mechanics of luxury jewelry. Diversity emerged in recent years, luxury brands is only apparent. All of them have emphasized the exclusivity, unusual appearance, the most fancy, albeit sometimes mindless mechanics with no savings on materials and manual labor. These common features confidently dominate the contemporary Haute Horlogerie, forcing to adapt to not only beginners, but also at home with history. Analysts argue that today mini-trends, calculated on a small group of people (in this case, the rich amateurs hours), eventually will dominate the market as a whole and grow like a snowball. Perhaps the most vivid analogy with what this is happening in watch making is the History of the iPod. The device, conceived as a portable storage medium for owners of Macs (which is negligible compared with the owners of PC), as a result has become a cult instrument, which generated a huge number of "clones". Modern people do not just want to see themselves as "not like anything." They are divided into small communities of like-minded people and will recognize some external attributes. IPod fans can easily see each other in a crowd of little white and gray headphones. The characteristic melody mobile phone Vertu immediately lets you know in a coterie of "theirs". Expensive watches, whose release is limited to a few hundred or even dozens of copies a year, have much to tell those who know of the existence of the brand. For the modern customer belonging to a mini-group is more important than the possession of good quality, but we all know Patek Philippe Calatrava or Breguet Classique. It turns out that to start a new watch brand the primarily target audience should be chosen (the more prestigious watch, the easier it is to select a group of people). Then find the initial capital (as says Nicolas Hayek, is enough for one million dollars) to come up with an original idea that will attract the attention of the elected community clients for at least two to three years.
