| The German Shepherd as a watchdog.
Thousand of years of experience, gained by the man on the basis of economic requirements, has enabled him to ascertain, that the dog is a unique animal capable of protecting purposefully in a controlled manner, induced not by instinct, but by the command of a man. The aggression of a dog, directed towards the man, became its economically useful “property”, which also makes it possible to use it for the protection of various entities.
The ability of a dog to timely warn by its behavior (alertness, tendency to move forward, but without bark or yelp) enables us to determine the location and direction of movement of a strange person, and thereby take additional measures beforehand for protecting the entity.
Barking by the watchdog at people who are at a significant distance of at least 40 meters from the post, at times can force them to give up their criminal intention of intruding into the territory of property. Its ability to continuously keep vigilance on the post makes it possible for the watchdog to reliably protect the property for a long time.
The watchdog can carry out the search of locations and premises, find hidden people, their belongings and traces, and also independently stop strangers entering the protected property. The watchdog does not take anything from the hands of strangers and also it does not take food scattered on ground. It also does not get distracted by fire-shots.
Watchdog can escort the arrested people and protect the instructor (owner) from attack. Specially trained watchdogs can successfully repulse the attack of people, who are armed with cold as well as fire arms, at the same time without caring about themselves, risking their life, they protect the owner.
The usage of such qualities of watchdog with a quick reaction, good strength, endurance, enables to increase the reliability for protection of various properties, living premises and territories around them and cut-down on other security (sentries, watchmen).
There are some methods for a watchdog guarding: on a short (dead) tether, at a post (restricted guarding) and without a tether (free guarding).
The post of the guard dog is some area or closed premises intended for protection by the watchdog and designed in an appropriate manner. The post for the usage of a watchdog on a short (dead) tether is erected directly at the entity to be protected, for example at the door of a warehouse, shed, office premise etc. The watchdog is put on a chain which is fastened to the breast band and a specially equipped pillar.
If the guard dog is positioned at the entrance door, the chain can be fastened to the breast band of the dog and to the ring, fixed in the door frame or in the bottom of the box installed on the post. The chain should be of such a length so that the dog could freely reach the protected door.
Throughout the length and along the width of at least 8-10m, the area of the block house must be freed from everything that may prevent the movement of the watchdog. In the middle of the site, leaving aside some space, establish a doghouse so that the dog could easily enter it by slightly pulling the chain. The post of free guarding is equipped, provided there is fencing around the protected area or entity. The fencing should be continuous, having a minimum height of 2m and have an entrance gate. The entire protected area should be cleansed of dust, thorny and cutting items. |
