The news from Wal-Mart overshadowed otherwise optimistic economic news, including a sharp drop in oil prices. Nonetheless, the Dow Jones industrial average experienced a triple digit loss for the second time in a week. Some analysts believe that the profit report from Wal-Mart signals an economic slowdown and a decrease in consumer spending.
