Dozens of thousands of South Africans buy vuvuzelas and "play" them on the World Cup matches so loudly that the players get distracted and can hardly hear the referees' whistles over the sound of vuvuzelas from the tribunes. Professor Mahlo Mokgalong from The University of Limpopo said this about vuvuzelas: "For the people of South Africa, going to a soccer match without vuvuzela is like going to a war without weapons".
