This contest is fueled by the following news: In November, Eileen Rivera Ley, who is 41 and blind, will vote by herself for the first time. Blind voters who are living in Maryland and in some other states will use electronic voting machines for the first time this election. The machines are equipped with the latest technology that allows disabled men and women the chance to vote without assistance from another person. Some people are contending that the machines are not reliable. However, disabled voters generally are pleased with the chance to vote independently.
