Van Gogh Paintings
Contest Directions: This Monday artists around the world celebrated the 156th birthday of Vincent Willem van Gogh. The Dutch Post-Impressionist artist who produced some of the world's most famous and most expensive art pieces spent all his life as a poor man. After trying careers as an art dealer, teacher, and even a preacher, Van Gogh became a self-taught artist at the age of 27 and produced over 2000 works in his life time, the most famous ones in his last two years. Ironically his art was unpopular at the time, Van Gogh hardly sold any of his works during his life, and lived as a "starving artist" relying on a modest monthly support from his brother Theo.
To celebrate the 156th birthday of Vincent van Gogh, photoshop his paintings any way you wish. Some examples are: modernize his paintings by including modern objects, sceneries, or people; merge parts of Van Gogh's paintings with other famous paintings; commercialize his works by turning them into advertisements for modern products; turn them into billboards, etc. These are just some ideas.

Starry Night with Van Gogh Painting
        • Great re-working and saturation blended with one of his most famous work. One of my favorites.
        • Yeah, lots and lots of saturation here. Did you expand the pixelation in the suit and then hammer it with contrast? I got a similar effect in my chop and that is how I got the texturing. I really love how this came out
        • Hitspinner: The Craquelure filter came in handy for adding some extra texture.
        • Ahhhhhh, muchos Gracias. Didn't think of that! Clever you!
        • The style match, the blending, that suit , that tie! Awesome work all around!
        • He looks kind of uncomfortable in that suit, doesn't he! Somehow doesn't look like a self portrait anymore. Interesting! Nice job by the way!
        • thekillerbee, someone stole your suit lol, great blend
        • Hahaha jerry! Great work AZ! Loved it from the start! Congrats on the gold!
        • Ahhh AZ, I should have guessed. You is certainly one of the texture wizards I admire.
Swell job as always, so good I think Vincent would sit you down , pull out a bottle of wine, set you both up and say, "So how'd yo do it?!!"
        • Hee Rainy, Since when are you nr 1? A belated congrats are in order. Now there is only the universe left to conquer.
        • Great blend AZ, looks authentic, congrats!

          I am in shock!!!! LOL
        • Well, first time I looked at the chop, I thought - man, that beard, that hair, that look... it must be Rainman, LOL!

Just kidding, you know whom I mean

Can other member guess who's on the portrait though?
        • Since you ask Newsy, I do believe that is Hitspinner - thought so last night, still do now.
Also just went back to double check at the 'Self Portrait' contest (is that cheating?)
        • Hitspinner? Hitspinner was never this good looking. lol j/k
        • Neener neener neener LOL

....and pretty sure that ain't cheating but it might be in the same class as a hanging chad or something hahahahahah.

        • Congrats HS He looks more laid back with longer locks.
        • Do any of us know if Hit has one or two ears??

    The Letter Van Gogh Painting
        • Great artistic work and blending.
          LOL the portraits!

I'd increase the overall brightness and contrast.
I think the source image you got had the lowered contrast and brightness compared to the original painting

    The Simpsons by Van Gogh
        • Im sittin here wondering why these two totally different styles work so well together LOL Cracks me up
        • Hitspinner: I don't know why, but the first image that comes to my mind watching that paint was the Simpsons family.
Wonder if the colours? Someone else think the same?
        • Well it sure works perfectly. LOL More often than not that first thought is the right one to go with; glad ya did. Totally cowabunga, Dude! err or Dudette... Me loves it muchly!
        • There are things that can be appear only in full view:

1 - I used the Smudge Tool in all the black borderlines of Barth's draw (hair, t-shirt, skate, etc).

2 - Barth was inserted with 2 layers, and on the 2nd layer I use the lighteen filter in near 80% opacity(it brought the Barth's colour near the colour of the paint).
        • Awesome man, simply awesome. The portraits are a hoot!

        • REMEMBER, I HAD TO LOAN YOU THE BLUE TIE.
        • I think you both are fibbing!
Well, maybe the comment on the tie is true. LOL
          Great Job,KB!
        • Are you kidding me? I hacked Rainman's account and bought all these paintings and the mansion to boot with all his gold! I borrowed the tie from Hitspinner, he usually has it tied around his head Willie Nelson style, sorry if it looks like yours. I understand that you can buy posters of Van Gogh's Sunflowers at Wal-Mart, but that does not make the original yours oldman!
        • It's a rental, the George Bush source would like it back, when the voting ends.
        • I was sure you would ace this contest with this one! I'm giving you the silver just on principle even if you did fib! LOL
