This contest is fueled by the following news: On April 25, 65 years from the day when delegates from 50 countries gathered in San Francisco for a conference of the United Nations on the issue of creating an international organization The United Nations. During the conference, delegates prepared a charter, consisting of 111 articles, and the charter was approved on June 25. The United Nations (UN) is an international organization of states, formed with the aim to support and strengthen international peace, safety and the development of cooperation between countries. The name of the United Nations, which was proposed by the President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt, was used for the first time in the Declaration of the United Nations on January 1, 1942, when, during the Second World War, representatives of 26 nations pledged on behalf of their governments to continue a joint struggle against the Nazi countries. The first contours of the United Nations were delineated at a conference in Washington at the mansion "Dumbarton-Oaks". In two sessions, which took place from September 21 till October 7, 1944, USA, Great Britain, USSR and China agreed on the aims, structure and functions of the world organization. On February 11, 1945, after meetings in Yalta, leaders of the USA, Great Britain and the USSR, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin declared their resoluteness to found an "international organization for maintaining peace and safety". On April 25, 1945, representatives of 50 countries assembled in San Francisco for a Conference on the United Nations to found an international organization and also for drafting the United Nations Charter. Delegates of countries, representing over 80% of the worldwide population, assembled in San Francisco. Around 3500 members participated in the Conference, of which only 850 were delegates, who were accompanied by their advisers, delegation staff and secretariat of Conference. Also, more than 2500 representatives from the press, radio and news films and also observers from various societies and organizations were also present in the conference. The conference in San Francisco was not only one of the most important conferences in history, but also, most likely, the largest of all international meetings that ever took place. The conference agenda was made up of suggestions, worked out by the representatives of China, Soviet Union, Great Britain and United States in "Dumbarton-Oak" and the delegates were supposed to draft a charter on the basis of the suggestions which is acceptable to all states. On June 25, 1945, the Charter, consisting of 111 articles was unanimously approved. The charter was signed on June 26, 1945 by the representatives of 50 countries. Poland, which was not represented at the Conference, signed it later and thus became the 51st founder state.
