dollar coins which will show and honor past US presidents.
Most vending machines, cash machines, and parking meters will accept
this currency. In fact it's sized almost like a quarter dollar, but
the machines will distinguish between the two coins correctly.
While the new US dollar coin with George Washington is an eye candy
for coin collectors, it is nonetheless a legal tender and is part of US
currency, so it is accepted in all banks and shops as a form of
payment.
The next in the line of series of US dollar coins are such American
presidents as Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison. The
whole currency program will honor the past US presidents in rotating
manner. The idea to honor US presidents on dollar coins is inspired by the previously successful United States
Mint 50 State Quarters program.
While coin collectors rejoice, US shoppers agree that the new $1
dollar coin with G. Washington is not very practical, no matter how
good it looks.
The first apparent criticism is that the coin looks, weights and feels
almost the same as a quarter, and cab ne easily confused for such by
consumers making some rush payments in a taxi or shops.
Second, the cash transactions are losing their share to
electronic and credit card transactions which account for 90 percent of all money
transactions nowadays.
Nonetheless, the new dollar coin looks very appealing and is perfect
for collectors. US Treasury introduced the dollar coin just before the
George Washington birthday, thus honoring the very first American
president.
US coin collectors mentioned that Washington looked rather strict on
the new dollar, and hope the next dollars will feature happier US presidents. |
