Rumor has it, around California's Mojave Desert, that a boulder known
as Giant Rock is magical. Some of the neighboring folks claim the
seven-story, freestanding jumbo rock attracts flying saucers. Some
people may even tell you the story of George Van Tassel, who lived
under the rock for a spell. Van Tassel claimed that a visitor from
Venus told him to construct a dome near the rock that would capture
the area's energy and provide for the rejuvenation of the human body.
Most recently, the fans of Giant Rock held a Retro UFO Convention --
paying tribute to the boulder, to Van Tassel and to the UFOs they
swear are visiting. The single day confab attracted a small number of
true believers, some glad in space costumes. During the convention,
people had the chance to purchase crystals, listen to so-called UFO
specialists and visit Integration (a fifty-five foot diameter domed
structure that adherents claim is linked to mysterious energy sources.
The rock's purported electromagnetic powers -- allegedly a vortex --
draws hundreds of UFO enthusiasts each year (and supposedly more than
a few otherwordly beings as well ... it has been reported that these
visitors from outerspace do not like being called aliens). According
to Van Tassel (who is dead, but was channeled at the convention by
Lloyd Noel), other wordly beings have been coming to the spot since
1953 when a spaceship from Venus arrived. Van Tassel said he was
invited onto the spaceship and was instructed to build the
Integration. He spent eighteen years building the structure. He
claimed that the Giant Rock and the Integration structure are
connected through the Earth's magnetic field to the Great Pyramid in
Egypt. Today, while inside the Integration structure, a visitor can
have a "sound bath" from a series of quartz bowls tuned to different
frequencies allegedly to rejuvenate the human body.
