| “Twilight” is a movie from director Catherine Hardwicke based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. The slogan of the film: “When you can live forever what do you live for?”; the film is distributed in some non-English countries by the name “Forbidden Fruit is Sweet”). The world premiere of the film took place on the 21st of November, 2008. The premiere in Russia was slated for November 20, 2008. MPAA rating: Viewing of the film by children below 13yrs is not advised.
History and creation:
While writing the novel, Stephenie Meyer had Henry Cavill in the mind for the role of Edward but by the beginning of the screen version, Henry Cavill had considerably outgrown his character in the film. Hence, Thomas Sturridge and Robert Pattinson were considered for the role ; it is noteworthy that both studied together in the same school, were of the same age and best friends, but finally the role was bagged by Robert Pattinson.
However, Kristen Stewart was the first one to be confirmed for a role and Robert Pattinson appeared only a month later. The entire Cullen family could be identified only in February 2007. Shooting of the film was started in February and continued till the 2nd of May. The main portion of the film was shot in Portland.
Since Kristen Stewart’s eyes are green in color, she had to constantly put-on dark colored contact lenses. For image purpose, Robert Pattinson’s hair was dyed, has his hair style changed and constantly had make-up on. Robert also wore light-brown colored contact lenses since his eyes are also green.
Plot:
Seventeen year old Bella Swan moves to her father in Forks so as not to disturb her eternally young mother and her new husband with her presence. In Forks, she meets the mysterious and very beautiful Cullen family. They are united by rare features: golden eyes, unusual paleness and perfect beauty. Edward Cullen behaves strangely towards Bella (as it is found out later, he is a vampire and never met such a wild smell of blood, as that of Bella's). However, soon he rescues Bella from an uncontrollable minivan and also from street hooligans, which forces him to think over his present essence.
Edward and Bella fall in love with each other. He introduces her to his family. The Cullens call themselves are vegetarians since they only consume the blood of animals. The Cullen family invite Bella to baseball (one of the most beautiful scenes of the film), where she encounters three wandering vampires. Bella's aroma makes James, one of the three vampires, go mad about her. Edward protects his beloved, but it only flares up James's appetite. James decides to kill Bella and starts in pursuit of her.
Bella, thinking to save her mother from James, comes to the ballet school where she took lessons earlier. James bites Bella, but Edward sucks out the poison and rescues his beloved Bella and finally kills James. When Edward and Bella dance during the prom on the occasion of the completion of academic year, Victoria, the lover of James, looks at them through a window. With this, the first part of the film “Twilight” comes to an end. |
Vampire love flick "Twilight" stays on top of the US box office for the second week. The movie was produced with low budget and without any big stars. "Twilight" is based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. On November 22, 2008, Summit Entertainment confirmed that they will be making a sequel to "Twilight", based on the second book in the series "New Moon".
