Thomas Cruise Mapother is born on 3 July 1962 in Syracuse (New York State). He is the third of four children but single boy in the family. His mother was an actress and father worked as an Engineer. Due to the problems with job placement of father, entire family had to frequently change residence. From childhood, Tom struggled with complex of being short-height and hence always mingled with small boys in school so as to look taller. To grow in height, Tom actively indulged in various types of sports. He couldn’t get on with studies mainly because, he, like his mother, suffered from Dyslexia (rare disease, concluding in problematic perception of letters and texts and this disease developed in Tom after being forced to write using right hand and he being a leftie). Due to problems with studies, he was put in a special group, but somehow, Tom could overcome the disease and came back to regular class.
Cruise acted on stages in theatres and at the end, understood that acting is his passion. After realizing this, Tom Cruise shifted to New York in 1980 in search of fame and shortened his lengthy name to “Tom Cruise”. Soon, he got his first role in the film “Endless Love”.
First major success of Tom Cruise was film “Risky Business”. Released in the year 1985, film Top Gun consolidated the success and its was a classic picture about pilots, film, giving rise to many parodies (Recall at least "Hot Shots"), computer games and also similar but less successful films.
Tom cruise demonstrated splendid acting skills in the movie "Rain man ". In 1990, while shooting for the film "Days of Thunder”, Tom Cruise, for the first time, met his would-be wife Nicole Kidman. His earlier wife Mimi Rogers divorced Tom Cruise since he could not become a father; however, this reason did not deter Nicole Kidman (even the rumors about homosexual attitude of the actor) and love-birds got married in the same year. They could not become parents and hence adopted two wonderful kids – Daughter Isabella Jane and son Connor Anthony.
In 1996, Tom Cruise could realize his childhood dream of playing a hero, similar to James Bond, by acting in “Mission: Impossible”. Little did someone had believed that, this film will recover the money (more than 120 million dollars), spent on creation of the film. The film surpassed all expectations and became a super commercial hit.
However, for many audiences, favorite movie of Tom Cruise remains "Jerry Maguire ". In this film, Tom has once again demonstrated his splendid acting skills. Film has won hearts of many audiences all over the world and collections in USA surpassed more than 150 million dollars. The film was nominated for Oscar in several nominations (including for the best film). Even this time, Tom did not receive the cherished statuette but "Golden Globe" award for the best male role for “Jerry” somehow was a consolation.
After "Jerry Maguire", Tom starred along with his wife in the Stanley Kubrick‘s film “Eyes Wide Shut”. The film took two years to be completed and due to which, Tom Cruise could not spare enough time in sequel “Mission Impossible II”. At last, the film, whose shooting was kept a secret, was released and Tom Cruise could concentrate on other films.
Second installment of the Mission Impossible films “Mission Impossible II” was directed by John Woo and released in theatres in the year 2000 was also a runaway commercial hit. This film conquered the hearts of audiences mainly due to the efforts of Tom Cruise.
In the year 2001, Tom starred in the film “Vanilla Sky” with Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz. On the sets of this film, Tom Cruise got attracted towards Penelope and was involved with her romantically.
The affair continued till 2004. Rumors circled around that Tom decided to come back to Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz started dating actor Matthew McConaughey.
In the year 2002, Thomas played main role in thriller “Minority Report, in which Colin Farrell also featured.
Film “Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise in lead role was released in 2003 and “Collateral” was released in 2004. Year 2004 marked the release of film “War of the Worlds”, which was a joint venture of Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg. Female lead role was played by 12 year old Dakota Fanning in this film.
