| Conventionally, table lamps can be divided into two categories, lamps for work and lamps for home appliances and decor.
In the first place, let's discuss the "work" lamp. They, as a rule, are used in study-rooms, offices and so that a child can do lessons in a comfortable environment. In all these situations, the eyes can take a considerable amount of stress and hence, it is necessary to take great care when selecting appropriate lamps.
While purchasing a table lamp, do not forget that improper lighting on the working table can lead to fatigue, decreased performance and in the long run - eye diseases. Therefore, it is better if the table lamp is equipped with adjustment facilities.
Ophthalmologists recommend that the light from table lamps should not be very powerful - not more than 40 - 60 Watts - remembering that a white sheet of paper reflects light and if the light is too powerful, then the eyes could get tired. It is recommended, that a working table lamp should be capable of not issuing direct light but scattered light. Therefore, it is better not to select a table lamp which is cylindrical but one that has a spherical or conical lampshade so that the rays falling on table consist more of rays reflected from inner surface of the lampshade than the direct rays.
It is particularly convenient if the lamp is equipped with a power adjustment facility. A table lamp should have a height of 30- 45 cm above the tabletop and should be above the upper point of the monitor. It is better to use a halogen lamp - it gives a much softer and scattered light.
But, we use table lamps not only in study rooms. They can be used as night lamps in bedrooms and a wonderful element of decoration in living rooms. The areas where table lamps can be used are many. Not a single room exists where a table lamp cannot be used.
Usually, table lamps are designed by designers within the same thematic lines in line with other lamp types - ceiling, wall-mounted, floor-fitted. Purchase two or more items of the same series and you achieve a beautiful decorative effect. But you can do something different and select a table lamp with a completely different design.
So, what actually makes the quality of a lamp? The answer is very simple. Firstly, the quality of design. Secondly, the quality of materials. Thirdly the assembly quality. Pricing is done by taking the costs implementing the complex technological processes into consideration. The level of design complexity also plays a specific role.
Our recommendation: if you have the money to buy lighting fixtures by great modern experts, by all means spend the money on them. You will not regret it. If not, don’t worry, even lighting fixtures, which are quite a lot cheaper are also good. In addition, it will be easier to replace a lamp you have grown tired of which cost $150, compared to one that you purchased for $1800!
It is always recommended to buy a lamp at specialized stores, where they explain and demonstrate in detail, give you a chance to have a feel of it and when buying, you are given a warranty card. This recommendation should be followed in case, of course, you want the lamp to last longer than one or two months.
The table lamp is a necessary attribute in every home and office but while selecting it, we primarily focus on price and design, neglecting many other important factors. An incorrectly selected lamp may have a negative impact on your health.
All table lamps are divided into working and decorative. Decorative, as the name implies, are created primarily as part of the interior; often manufactured as an entire series of lighting fixtures of a single design: table lamp, floor-fitted, wall-mounted & ceiling. Decorative table lamps must harmoniously blend with the interior, it can have a very intricate shape & decoration, and in this case, its technical characteristics are overshadowed.
