| Susan Boyle (Born April 1, 1961, Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland) is an unemployed resident of Scotland who independently learned singing and worked voluntarily in church. She became popular thanks to participation in Britain's show “Britain's Got Talent” on April 11, 2009. Susan amazed the audience unexpectedly through the magnificent singing of the song “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables”. Boyle was born in Blackburn, West Lothian. Her parents were Irish immigrants. She is the youngest in the family of four brothers and six sisters, of which only six are surviving. Boyle was born when her mother was 47 years old. The Sunday Times writes that it was rather difficult delivery during which Boyle was deprived of oxygen access for a short-period. The diagnosis indicated that she has learning difficulties, which as a result have led to humiliation at school. Everybody called her “Susie Simple” and “Susan, silly fellow”, but soon she quickly learnt to overcome those who laughed at her. After leaving school she was employed as a trainee cook in a kitchen in the Western College of Lothian for six months. From time to time, she visited the theatre to listen to professional singers. Before her hour of triumph, Boyle took part in various musical competitions two times. One was at the age of 22 in a local competition in the small town of Motherwell, where her sister lives now, with the composition “The Way We Were”. In 1995, she was auditioned by Micheal Barrymore, but told that she was too excited to make good impression. The father of Susan Boyle died in 1990 and all her brothers left home leaving Susan alone to take care of her aging mother who died in 2007 at the age of 91. Boyle still lives in the family house with her ten year old cat. The improbable devotion of Boyle towards her mother was that she did not have time for herself since she was too occupied taking care of her mother. She never married. And during an interview, just ahead of her performance on Britain’s Got Talent she said that she had “never been kissed”. For the first two weeks from the moment of the appearance of her video on YouTube her performance was viewed over 50 million times. |

British singing sensation Susan Boyle is media's favorite darling these days. Amateur singer and self-proclaimed 48 year virgin Boyle came to public attention on April 11, 2009, when she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables on "Britain's Got Talent" show. Since then, Boyle became an instant YouTube celebrity (her singing performance was viewed by over 4 million people within 24 hours of posting) and appeared on many TV shows, including CNN's Larry King Live. However, the true test of celebrity status has been a South Park mention. In the recent South Park episode 'Fatbeard', Ike, the little brother of Kyle, runs away to become a Somali pirate, and writes home "Dear mommy and daddy, I am running away. Everyone at school is a f*****g idiot and if one more person talked to me about that Susan Boyle performance of Les Miserables, I was going to puke my b***s out of my mouth."
