This contest is fueled by the following news: About to go where it has never gone before, Star Trek: Enterprise is headed off of the air. The Star Trek franchise heads off the air with the last episode of the program. The show has lasted four seasons and marks the first time in the past 18 years that there exists no first run Star Trek program on the air. This show is the first of the Star Trek spin-offs not to last at least seven seasons. The ratings for this latest in the Star Trek franchise plummeted in recent times. Interestingly, public pressure kept the original Star Trek series on the show for a third season in the late 1960s. Star Trek is a famous science-fiction franchise, including, six TV serials (including animated), 11 full-length films, hundreds of books and short stories and a huge number of computer games. Many works were created for fans on the motives of film epics. "Star Trek" made a considerable contribution to American mass culture and gave rise to the original sub culture. Gene Roddenberry was the author behind the idea of "Star Trek" and also the serial "Star Trek: Original Serial", which was initiated by him and shown on September 8, 1966. The universe of "Star Trek" paints space future, an apparent utopia at first, in which exists the United Federation of Planets, a member of which is Earth. At the same time, considerable areas of the Galaxy remain unexplored and prepare many surprises and discoveries for researchers. "Our aim - Where No Man Has Gone Before - was the motto of the "Star Trek" heroes. "Star Trek" - one of the most thoroughly worked out fictional universes. Each character has his own biography, each civilization - its culture, traditions and history. In official sources, it is possible to find a detailed history of the universe, technical specifications of the spaceships, accurate descriptions about each thing - from recipes of the traditional Klingon courses to game rules in 3D chess. The world is filled with several million admirers of this universe, calling themselves "Trekkies" or "Trekkers". Several serials and also some full-length films were shown in Russian language on television channels SCAT, CTC, ORT (Channel One), "Domashniy", AXN Sci-Fi, NTV-Plus and Kinopokaz. Races: Many races inhabit the universe of Star Trek. The most popular amongst them are: Andorians, Borgs, Vulcans, Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans and Earthlings. Earthlings are one of the founders of the Federation along with Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites. Vulcans - first aliens , with whom the Earthings entered into a contract. Vulcans flew down to Earth in reply to the first warp flight, undertaken on the ship, which was constructed according to the design of Dr. Zefram Cochrane. He was the pilot of an experimental spaceship, the first stage of which was on hydrocarbon fuel. Television serials: Particularly, television serials paved the way for the beginning of the epics. The "Star Trek" idea was conceived in the brain of Gene Roddenberry, under the influence of the film "Master of the World", released in 1961. Based on the novels of Jules Verne, the film narrates about a scientist Robur, who wandered on the flying ship "Albatross" and fought for peace in the entire world. But, at that time, Roddenberry was more occupied with the serial on the Second World War. Captain Phillip Pike was one of the main protagonists of the serial. But, the channels rejected the idea and the serial did not see the light of day. Ideas and materials of the unsuccessful serial laid the foundation for the "Star Trek" concept. Roddenberry made attempts to sell the screenplay outline to "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer", CBS and at the end, NBS, where luck waited for him. "The Cage", the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) was shown on June 24, 1966 on NBC with Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike, predecessor of James T. Kirk. However, the serial did not rake in enthusiasm amongst the channel management and the project was shelved. Hunter also refused to do the shooting. On August 26, 1965, NBC ordered a second pilot episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before", but the script was kept on the back burner and the serial was aired after a year as the original serial "Star Trek". It was the third episode in the first season. The premiere of the serial "Star Trek: The Original Series" took place on September 8, 1966 on NBC. Since then, five serials were aired, which contained 726 episodes in total.
