| The interim prime minister of Iraq announced the creation of a domestic spy agency. The agency will work to root out insurgents. At a news conference, which was held as violence increased around the country, Iyad Allawi stated that he was forming what was to be called the General Security Directorate. The agency will attempt to infiltrate insurgency networks. Allawi said that the government was working to remove all obstacles to democracy. |
