The period of spring is one of the four seasons of cyclical climate temperature
changes. It comes after winter and is followed by summer.
Scientifically speaking, Western countries officially marks the
beginning of the spring with the vernal equinox at around March 20 in the
Northern Hemisphere.
Chinese astronomy holds on to their own calendar though, and
considers vernal equinox to be the middle, not beginning of a spring,
which starts with Lichun, close to February 4. Irish astrology spring
consists of the whole months of February, March, and April.
Conventional meteorology counts spring as the while months of March,
April, and May (in the Northern Hemisphere.)
During spring the Earth's North Pole is angled towards the sun, which
causes the warmer weather temperatures and longer daytime hours. Such climate
change results in plans and flowers to spring, thus the name of the
season. Snow accumulated through winter starts to melt and gives more
water to rivers which sometimes overflow their banks. Rains are also
frequent this season. Warmer climate, and earth soaked with waters
give a favorable conditions to growing and blooming of plants and
flowers. Most animals conceive and give birth to their offsprings
during spring, so that they have enough time to grown strong and met
the autumn and winter months later. Due to their position on earth
sphere, tropical and subtropical areas hardly see any difference in
seasons, it's almost like summer the whole year round for them.
Similarly, arctic and subarctic areas see the whole year as winter
like days, with spring months bringing only minor climate differences.
In folklore and culture, most nations see spring as the time of birth
and the start of new cycle in life. It is also filled with romance,
and not surprisingly the phrase "spring is in the air" is a synonym
with love, happiness and luck.
