This contest is fueled by the following news:
Smith & Wesson is the largest manufacturer of firearms (including revolvers) in United States of America. Corporate office is situated in Springfield, Massachusetts. Company is formed in 1856 by Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson. .046 Smith & Wesson Magnum – cartridge for hunting and the most powerful one amongst the 11mm cartridges, which are in manufacture today. Round .460 – more longer and powerful variant of .454 Casull, which in turn, is a longer and advanced version of .45 Colt. Consequently, all guns and pistols, which can fire .460 rounds, can fire both .454 & .45 rounds. However, reverse is not applicable due to large dimensions of .460 S&W rounds and that explosion can take place while firing a weapon of lesser caliber. It is confirmed that .460 is the most powerful cartridge, firing rounds with a velocity of 710m/sec and which stands just behind the advanced version .500 Smith & Wesson. Arms: Smith & Wesson 460 XVR — revolver, designed on X-frame Smith &Wesson for firing .460 rounds. Another version is also available for .500 caliber. Pistol - machine gun Smith and Wesson Model 76 was developed in 1966 by popular American arms company Smith & Wesson on the design of Swedish pistol - machine gun Carl Gustaf M/45. Such unusual decision is explained by the fact that the American special mission units, which at that moment, actively participated in war in Vietnam, widely used the Swedish pistols-machine guns, but peaceful Sweden, in 1965, stopped supply to America. Therefore, engineers from Smith & Wesson copied the Swedish design and incorporated some changes in the actual Swedish design. In 1967, when production of Model 76 was started, the special mission units lost interest in Model 76 and production of pistol - machine gun SW Model 76 proceeded at insignificant pace till 1974 supplying mainly to internal police and civil market in USA. Further, exact copies of SW Model 76 were manufactured by small American company MK Arms under brand MK-760. These replica were manufactured both in automatic as well as self-loading variants. It is necessary to note that, on the basis of SW Model 76, company Smith & Wesson experimented with 9mm liner less cartridges in 1968 -69. These cartridges looked like a usual pistol bullets, which had sabre with gun powder, glued at the back. Ignition of cartridges was envisaged by electric means, two 12-volt batteries in special case were fastened from bottom to barrel extension of Model 76, before trigger guard. During testing, one set of batteries was sufficient for more than 10000 rounds. Nevertheless, problems such as ensuring mechanical strength of liner less cartridges and protection of cartridges from moisture in real conditions led to shut-down of project. Pistol - machine gun Smith & Wesson Model 76 uses automatics with free breech block, firing is done from open breech block. Bolt stop – selector of fire modes is located on both sides of trigger mechanism framework and has three positions - "Bolt stop", " single fire " and " automatic fire". Target sighting apparatus is fixed, un-adjustable and include aperture rear sight and front sight. Butt stock is metallic. Collapsible to left. Colt "Python" with 6 inch barrel (152 mm) Revolver Colt "Python" is one of the most popular revolvers, some time back manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company. Original design and unmatched manufacturing quality with superior fit and finish, accuracy, accuracy, smooth trigger pull and a tight cylinder lock-up won many admirers around the world. Colt Python revolvers were first introduced in mid 1950s originally as a large frame target revolver for .357 magnum cartridge. Hence, high accuracy and excellent manufacturing quality are required for distinctive for target revolver. 6-cartridge ammunition caisson opens to left. Target means consists of fore gun and sights, adjustable in two planes. Revolver is equipped with interlock. All the variants of "Python" series distinguish from each other only in barrel lengths and finishes. Revolvers with 64, 102, 152 & 203 mm barrels (corresponding to 2.5, 4, 6 & 8 inches) also exist. Python was originally available in two finishes: Royal Blue or polished with wooden handle beaks. Colt "Python Elite" with 4 inch barrel (102 mm) The discussed revolver very well recommended itself as most reliable and high accuracy revolver. Short-barrel variants were popular amongst the American policemen; however, owing to high price, Pythons were practically not procured by police Departments. Information is available that the American pilots used the 4 inch “Pythons” as survival weapon during Vietnam War. “Python” pistols were procured as special case but officially, these revolvers did not appear in armaments of even single army worldwide. Serial production of these revolvers was stopped in 1965 but at present, only "Luxury" variant under the name of Colt "Python Elite " is available. “Elite” variant is manufactured only through order with 4 and 6-inch barrels, chrome-plated or polished body finish and costly wood beaks. Tactico-technical characteristics: Caliber: 9mm Cartridge: .357 Magnum (9x33 mm) Total length, mm: 203 Barrel length, mm: 64 Weight without cartridges, gram: 935 No. of cartridges in barrel: 6
