This contest is fueled by the following news: Residents of the United States are popping sleeping pills like never before. Hectic workdays are leaving people with difficulties falling and staying asleep at night. As a result, there has been a surge in the number of advertisements for products that claim they can help people safely slumber with minimal side effects. Approximately 42 million sleeping pill prescriptions were filled in 2005, according to IMS Health (a research company). The amount is up sixty percent from 2000. Some experts do worry that sleeping medications are being over-prescribed. There is also a concern that some doctors are concerned that doctors may be ignoring other causes of sleep problems such as depression.
