| Racing on ski boots upto a certain distance amongst a particular category of people (age, sex and etc.) Four types are generally conducted:
Classic style
Free Style
The first two types of races are held at time with individual start, mass start or with the handicapped (Gundersen system)
Duatlon – Skiing race with a mass start, in which the sportsmen undergo a race as classic style in the first half of the race, and in the second half of the race, after changing the skis, - as free style.
Relay – Skiing race with massive start, in which four of the sportsmen from one team alternatively covers one fourth of the total distance. Usually two stages take place in classic style and two stages in the free style.
Nordic Combined – A competition containing of two stages, spring board dives and skiing race with free style.
Lengths of the dives are converted into points. Taking flight at a critical point (C) gains them 60 points (a critical point means the capacity of the spring board: for a spring board of 60 meters critical point is equal to 60 meters, for a spring board of 90 meters it is equal to 90 meters and so on). Every meter over 120 meter spring board earns them 1.8 points, on a 90 metered – 2 points. In other words, if sports men on a 120 metered spring board acquire a flight of 121 meters, he gets 61.8 points (60 points per flight for a critical point plus 1.8 for the additional meter). Accordingly during the dive of 119 meters the umpires remove 1.8 points from the 60 points. Competition is provided by 5 umpires, who will estimate the skill of the dive with 20 point system. The best and the worst ratings are dropped, and in the pretest come three mean values. For example, if the dive gets of 60 meters at the critical point, all the five judges give 18 points each, sportsmen conclusively gets 114 points (60+54). Specific concentration of the umpires will be on the technique of landing – said to be splitting or classic rack “Telemark”. For falling or touching the land with hands – 10 points from the umpires share, minus 30 points.
The race will start with the backlog of the contestants according to time, which is calculated from the points gained by diving (1 point = 4 seconds), in such a manner if a sportsman gains 120 points, and other one 115 points his backlog will be 20 seconds.
The winner will be the sportsman who crosses the finish line of the skiing race first.
