Sheryl started playing on the piano when she was just 6 yrs old. After schooling, Crow studied in the Music College at the University of Columbia and after graduating from college, she worked for some time as a music teacher in Saint Louis. In the 1980s, she performed as a back-vocalist for popular performers Michael Jackson, George Harrison, Steve Wonder, Joe Cocker and Rod Stewart. She signed a contract with the label A&M records. Till today, the lone dark phase of her career was in 1995, when Sheryl Crow fought with alcohol dependence and she kicked-off the dependence successfully.
Her second album (1996) contains hits such as "If It Makes You Happy", "Everyday is a Winding Road" and "A Change (Will Do You Good)". Its sound was harder. The album did not sell as well as the first one due to a conflict with the corporation “Wal–Mart” -a chain of supermarkets, monopolists in the smaller cities of America. The album reached sales of 4 million dollars thanks to local radio stations. In 1997 and 1998, Sheryl Crow performed on tours and participated in one of the recordings on an album by Eric Clapton. Her disc The Globe Sessions, released in the end of 1998, got a “Grammy” award in the nomination for “Best rock album”.
Thereafter, she received ten more Grammy awards, the albums were all multi-platinum and she sold 23 million discs and had world-wide success.
