| American actress Sharon Vonne Stone was born on the 10th of March, 1958 in the USA. She came from a big family in Northwest Pennsylvania, in the small boring town of Meadville. In childhood, Sharon was ugly, tall, and bony and wore glasses with thick lenses. The only thing she could boast of was her brains: At the age of 13, she had a higher IQ - 150 points amongst coevals. Her mother worked in a library and father in the railways. He made small Sharon learn to handle arms and now, a pair of loaded shot-guns is always available in Sharon Stone's house.
Already by the end of seventies, she had traveled a long distance, from saleswoman in "McDonald's" to a successful model in the Ford Modeling Agency of Eileen Ford. For the first time, Sharon Stone appeared in the Woody Allen's movie “Stardust Memories "(1980). In this movie, she played a silent beauty, at whom a careless glance was made from a passing train. Her "star" life begins, but it will be difficult and long.
In the 1980's, Sharon Stone appeared in small roles: in "Deadly Blessing” by Wes Craven; and in "Irreconcilable Differences” (1984), where the unfortunate waitress turns into an irritable movie star. Stone plays the role of a daughter of an archaeologist in "King Solomon's mines" (1985) and in a sequel movie - "Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold" (1986). These two adventure films are perfectly presented and stylistically are very similar to the trilogy “Indiana Jones”, though concede to it in technical parameters. Sharon Stone appeared in small roles in “Police Academy 4" (1984), "Action Jackson" (1988) and in “Blood and Sand” (1989), which nobody recollects as a remake. Stone also acted on TV, starting with small roles in "Not Just Another Affair" (1982), and then in bigger roles in television movies "Calendar Girl Murders" (ABC, 1984) and in "Tears in the Rain” (Showtime, 1988). The only appreciable work of Sharon Stone on TV was in the unknown mini-serial "War and Remembrance” (ABC, 1988-89).
The first success came to Sharon Stone when she played cynical, cruel kick-boxer wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger, a secret service agent, in the fantastic action thriller by Paul Verhoeven "Total Recall" (1990). After five more unimpressive thrillers and comedies, at last Sharon Stone became a star - after the role of the sexually insatiable author of detective books in the popular and controversial movie “Basic instinct” (1992) by the same director Paul Verhoeven. The fashionable "psychological" plot, an intrigue, the beautiful and seductive fore-shortenings (the legendary interrogation scene, where Sharon crosses and uncrosses her legs without wearing underwear) brought Sharon the long-awaited, though scandalous glory, which since then has followed her.
Later she played a more "decent" role in a melodrama, also with little sexual implication and distinguished by a vague plot - "Sliver" (1993), which did not bring huge profits in the United States but was received well abroad. Finally, not to stay for long as a sex bomb, Stone selected a role of a strict wife in the movie "Intersection" (1994) which did not taste huge success but once again was received well outside the United States and the action movie “The Specialist” (1994) with Sylvester Stallone made the cash desk ring. After that film, Sharon Stone stated that she would stop acting in erotic films since she is not young enough to play such roles and would wish to try new roles.
However, her next film "The Quick and the dead" (1995), which was produced by herself for the first time, made less profit. In this western, Sharon Stone looked perfect playing the cowboy in Clint Eastwood's style. Though the director of the film Sam Raimi (who was selected by Stone herself) made the film with style the critics did not like the film very much and only a few came to watch the movie.
But the actress once again was successful in the role of Ginger McKenna in the film "Casino", as a prostitute from Las-Vegas, with whom the hero Robert De Niro falls in love. This film brought new popularity to Sharon Stone and the movie made good profits and was nominated for awards. Sharon Stone has not stopped there - she has a film studio "Chaos" and Sharon Stone signed a contract with the company "Miramax". Sharon Stone played in the not so successful remake "Diabolique" along with Isabelle Adjani and Chazz Palminteri and then convincingly played a role of a prisoner sentenced to the death penalty in the film "Last Dance" (1996).

Sharon Stone celebrates her 50th birthday today. Stone became internationally famous after her leading role in "Basic Instinct" in 1992 which became one of the most famous Hollywood movies of all times. Stone was nominated for the Academy Awards but never won. She won Golden Globe Awards and Emmy Awards. However Sharon Stone also received Golden Raspberry Awards (worst actress) for her role in "Basic Instinct 2" which tanked badly.
