| From the beginning of his bodybuilding career, the personal life of Arnold was extremely turbulent and lead to an emergence of a number of legends: For example, he once, on a Californian beach, went to a strange girl and plainly made an intimate proposal. One of his friends, hastily intervened and started explaining to the girl: "My friend had come here recently and does not know our customs", to which she replied: "No, no, do not stop him!". In an interview to Penthouse magazine, one woman offered to smear him in chocolate and lick. Other legends include the case, while giving autographs, a fan undressed and asked: "Do you want to pump this body?".
In 1969, Schwarzenegger met Barbara Outland Baker, an English teacher. As Arnold wrote in his autobiography, before meeting her, he "perceived love as one more function of the body”, but after the entry of Barbara into his life, his friends used to joke: "Arnold is in love".
Their relationship ended in 1974. According to his own memoirs, "she was sensible woman, who wanted a solid, everyday life. I was not sensible and hated the very idea of normal life". Barbara described Arnold as "fun-loving, charismatic, adventurous and athletic, but the breakup was explained by the fact that, he had become "unbearable - the world revolves around him". Subsequently, Barbara wrote a book "In the Shadow of Austrian Oak". Arnold did not prevent her from writing the book and also gave her a 3 hour interview.
Marriage with Maria Shriver
In 1975, Arnold met hairdresser Sue Moray at a Venice Beach and from August 1977, Arnold started dating television reporter, Maria Shriver, niece of President John F. Kennedy. In August 1978, Moray gave him an ultimatum, but Arnold Schwarzenegger chose Maria Shriver. In an interview to Penthouse magazine, Arnold said that, Maria has always been his warmest admirer, who studied bodybuilding and cheered him loudly during the performances in the hall.
According to Wendy Leigh in the "Unofficial biography of Arnold Schwarzenegger", a romantic affair existed between Arnold and Brigitte Nielsen, his co-star in "Red Sonja". At that time, Schwarzenegger was already engaged to Maria Shriver, so the relationship did not take-off. Subsequently, Brigitte Nielsen married Sylvester Stallone, the rival of Arnold in the film industry.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were married on April 26, 1986. The wedding took place in Hyannis, Massachusetts, in St. Francis Xavier’s Roman Catholic Church. The couple has four children:
• Katherine Eunice Schwarzenegger, born on December 13, 1989 in Los Angeles, California;
• Christina Maria Aurelia Schwarzenegger, born on July 23, 1991, in Los Angeles, California;
• Patrick Arnold Schwarzenegger, born on September 18, 1993, in Los Angeles, California;
• Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger, born on September 27, 1997, in Los Angeles, California;
For a long time, the Schwarzenegger family lived in Brentwood, in a house with an area of 1000 sq.m. Schwarzenegger maintained strict discipline, waking up children at six in the morning and making them do exercises and training.
In May 2011, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who decided to return to cinema after leaving the office of Governor of California, announced his divorce with Maria Shriver about two weeks after their "Silver Jubilee" wedding anniversary. In early 2000, Arnold Schwarzenegger became the father of an illegitimate child, who was born to one of his housekeepers, about which Arnold told his wife after stepping down as Governor. |
