American actor, drag queen, model, author, and singer-songwriter RuPaul is turning 50 this Wednesday. RuPaul first gained fame in the 1990s when he appeared in a wide variety of television programs, films, and musical albums. RuPaul is noted among famous drag queens for his indifference towards the gender-specific pronouns used to address him - both "he" and "she" have been deemed acceptable. As RuPaul said: "You can call me he. You can call me she. You can call me Regis and Kathie Lee; I don't care! Just as long as you call me."
For his/her upcoming 50th birthday, we present you with some interesting RuPaul facts:
* RuPaul is of the few drag stars using his/her real name, RuPaul's mother declared her choice back in the hospital by quipping, "His name is RuPaul Andre Charles and he's gonna be a star! Cause ain't another mother f**ker alive with a name like that!"
Right after he received his GED, RuPaul worked as a used luxury car salesman. He drove around the country picking up and delivering the hot wheels. Maybe that was his inspiration for the title “Drag Race?”
* On his 32nd birthday, November 17, 1992, RuPaul released the biggest hit of his carerer, “Supermodel.” Work it, girl! And in 1995, MAC cosmetics made RuPaul their cover girl and she lived up to her song by becoming the first drag queen supermodel for reals.
* RuPaul is a doll, in every sense of the word. An action figure has been made in her likeness! Another fun fact? The outfits were designed by the couturier of Michelle Obama's inauguration gown, Jason Wu.
Happy Birthday RuPaul!

This contest is fueled by the following news: RuPaul is a popular American performer, song-writer and actor, dressed usually as a female.
RuPaul also takes part in television programs and directing.
Unlike many other drag-queens, RuPaul performs both as a male and as a female.
RuPaul was born in San Diego on November 17, 1960. When his mother was asked to name the child, she answered: "RuPaul Andre Charles and he will become a star". When the boy was seven years old, his parents divorced. His mother found the divorce difficult. She did not come out of her room for almost 2 years and was regularly taking valium (diazepam). The children had to act mature and take enough care of their ailing mother while hiding the entire issue from social workers. RuPaul has three sisters and he was the only male member at that time in the family.
Since childhood RuPaul displayed impeccable taste - he was the best adviser to his mother when she got ready to go to the theatre. Being a man as well as woman simultaneously, he perfected how to present himself. 10cm high heels, long legs, inconceivable wigs, faultless make-up, is it he or she…..? That is RuPaul.
In general, Ru's path towards glory was thorny. Initially he lived on the streets, played in clubs, acted in amateur cinema and tried all narcotics available in the world. After that, he took a strong decision to become successful. He stopped taking narcotics and even took the help and advice from of his friends in order to overcome his habit.
In 1992, his single "Supermodel" won hearts of audience's world wide. And one year later, he received a call while in a hotel room. The manager of RuPaul called to inform him that Elton John wanted to sing a duet with him. "I ran around shouting: Oh! My God! Elton John! Elton John! remembers Ru. — I, probably, shouted for around five minutes" RuPaul recalls.
In 1995, he was offered to become the face of cosmetic company M.A.C. products, a product always used by him. In six years, this contract fetched him about 22 million USD.
RuPaul acted in 12 student works and 17 serious feature films.
Almost all of them belong to the gay/lesbian cinema genre, where life about representatives of unconventional sexual orientation is discussed.
Some serious films he starred in are also available:
"Blue in the Face" with Harvey Keitel & Jim Jarmusch;
"To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" with Patrick Swayze & Wesley Snipes;
"A Mother's Prayer";
"Wigstock: The Movie";
"A Very Brady Sequel"
American actor, model, singer, song-writer and drag queen. He rose to fame in the 1990s after series of television programs, films and musical albums. Once upon a time, he worked in clubs in Atlanta and New York. He completely ignores the issue of his own sex - and responds the same whether he is referred to as a "he" or even a "she".
RuPol was born in San Diego, State of California. He began his career in Atlanta, Georgia in 1980s. Some time back, he acted in small budget under-ground projects, worked on musical records & performed in night clubs.
In the beginning of 1990s, RuPaul had to shuttle between Georgia and New York, there he performed mainly in clubs. Practically every year he appeared at the popular festival among drag queens called "Wigstock" and he even managed to act in a documentary film pertaining to that festival.
In 1993, RuPaul recorded several albums. Dance and house music were the main portion of the albums. The track "Supermodel (You Better Work)" soon after release became very popular. It was quite unexpected, taking into account total domination of grunge-rock & gangsta rap, but nevertheless, it happened. On wave of success, the song was broadcast on many big channels and radio stations.
Subsequently, two song clips of RuPaul, "Back to My Roots" and "A Shade Shady" were very well received. The single "House of Love", which was released between the songs "Back to My Roots" and "A Shade Shady" was not released along with a video and it failed to impress many.
He was invited to an award ceremony for the best clips from the MTV channel. While performing, RuPaul exchanged stinging remarks with his "colleague" Milton Berle. Later, RuPaul told reporters that the conflict began back stage and that was the reason for Milton's behavior.
