On Monday, Jeremiah Wright, the former priest of Barack Obama, spoke in the National press club, situated in Washington, criticizing the government of the USA. His speech was telecast on TV.
Among other things, Wright assumed that the government has created the AIDS virus for the destruction of the colored population. Yesterday, Obama told journalists that he is “disturbed” by the speech of the pastor. According to the candidate, he was “upset by the show”, held by pastor. The senator from Illinois called Wright's comments "destructive".
Tonight, Obama will hold large meeting at the University of Indiana. Only 6 days are left for the deciding primaries of the Democratic Party in Indiana and North Carolina.
In July 2008, Obama undertook a week long tour to the Middle East and Europe. In the Middle East, Obama emphasized the fact that he undertook this trip exclusively with the purpose of familiarizing himself with the situation as a senator and not as probable future US President. Later on, he left for Jordan, Palestine and Israel, where he was given a top-level reception and held talks with Abdullah II, king of Jordan, Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestinian Autonomy, Shimon Peres, President of Israel and Ehud Barak, Defense Minister of Israel. In Europe, Obama visited Germany, France and Great Britain, where he met leaders of these countries, Angela Merkel, Nicolas Sarkozy and Gordon Brown and also delivered a speech to a gathering of 200,000 in Berlin.
Unlike McCain, in particular, who called to exclude Russia from "G8", Obama, during the election campaign, tried not to make sharp attacks on Moscow and in his speech on the "new strategy in new world" on July 15, 2008, he even urged to establish cordial relationship with Russia. In August 2008, during military operations in South Ossetia and Georgia (in which the Russian armies also participated), while on vacation, Obama at first made an appeal to stop the military operations and start negotiations, that contrasted with McCain's rigid statements against Russia. In this connection, it was stated in the press that, McCain took over the initiative on this issue as Obama actually did not take a certain stand. Nevertheless, on August 11, Obama took a new stand and called Russia an aggressor and its operations in Georgia cannot be justified and also urged to review ties with Russia - including the Russia's entry into World Trade Organization.
On August 23, 2008, on the eve of the opening of party convention of the democrats, Obama talked about the selection of candidate for the post of Vice President of the USA from the Democratic Party. Joe Biden, the Senator from Delaware, was chosen to be the proposed candidate. The candidatures of Obama and Biden were approved at the convention of the Democratic Party on August 28, 2008.
The last phase of the pre-election campaign in the USA coincided with the beginning of the financial crisis. In this connection, McCain suggested Obama postpone the debates and concentrate on working out on anti-crisis program, on which Obama refused. |
This week the strained bond between Barack Obama and Rev. Jeremiah Wright has finally broken up. The Illinois senator called on the press conference on the campaign trail in Noth Carolina to publicly react to Rev. Wright comments made on Monday at The National Press Club in Washington. Obama stated that he is outraged by Wright's comments and saddened by his spectacle. However this public "divorce" may come a day too late, as Rev. Wright did more damage to Obama's campaign than anything else. If Obama does not win the Democratic nomination, he should thank his former pastor.
