| Canada's Prime Minister, Jean Chretein, stepped down from office on Friday after serving in that office for ten years. He stepped down in a private ceremony. He is succeeded by Paul Martin, who was a finance minister. Martin indicated that he will strive to smooth out relations between Canada and the United States that have been a bit ruffled due to the war in Iraq. Chretein intends to return to a law practice with an Ottawa law firm now that he is out of office. |
