| | As the Cardinals meet to elect a new Pope in the Sistine Chapel, a system has been installed within the building to block any cell phone communications between those in the Chapel and the outside world. During the Papal Conclave, the Cardinals are forbidden from communicating with the outside world. The step taken in regard to the system at the Chapel is an extra precaution to ensure the secrecy of the Conclave. The Vatican spokesman, Joaquin Navarro-Valls, informed reporters at a news conference that journalists would be able to verify the effectiveness of the system when they will be able to take a walk through of the Chapel and test out whether or not their cell phones will work in the area.
