Equipment containing radioactive material has been stolen by thieves in Venezuela. The equipment is used on the oil industry and is the latest in a string of similar thefts. The head of the energy ministry's nuclear affairs department, Angel Diaz, warned that Cesium-137 material potentially could cause contamination upon exposure. In December, three police officers were arrested after they were linked to the robbery of a truck that was carrying a piece of equipment containing Iridium-192, which is used in checking oil pipelines. Two other capsules of Iridium-192 turned up missing in March. Both of these missing capsules later were found.
