Researchers have concluded that pregnant women who put on more weight than is recommended are more likely to have a Cesarean delivery. In a study of nearly 10,000 first time mothers, those who gained more weight than is recommended by health officials in the United States were more likely to have a C-section, even when their babies were not all that large. Birth weights of eight pounds or more do increase the odds of a needing a C-section delivery.
