| While patrolling a motorway in Italy, trained traffic police have to make what is considered a tough decision. Specifically, these officers must decide who gets to drive the department's first Lamborghini Gallardo. The car was given as a gift to the department and has top speeds of 192 miles per hour. Other countries that do not have this type of vehicle have been known to resort to other methods to stop a speeding motorist. For example, in Russia it is not unknown for police officers to shoot out the tires of a car that is being driven in excess speed by a motorist.
The police is a system of state bodies, belonging to the executive branch of power. It is empowered to protect life, health, rights of citizens, interests of society and the state.
The following functions of police are specified in law enforcement: providing security of identity, prevention and suppression of crimes and administrative offences, detection and exposure of crimes, protection of public order and maintenance of public safety, protection of private, state, municipal and other forms of property, rendering assistance to individual and legal personalities in protection of their rights and legitimate interests within the limits.
