| | A pocket knife is a variety of knife where the blade of which can be folded into the handle. For the fixation of the blade the knife locks are used. On the modern pocket knives there are arrangements to unfold it with one hand, for example a pin or a hole. The pocket knives are comfortable in urban conditions because of their small sizes.
A single item pocket knife only contains the properties of portability. Some pocket knives have a few folding items and also have the properties of a multifunctional instrument. Despite this the most important for all the knives (viz. unfolding knives also) the blade and other compositions are the fore most features for a knife. However a steel blade even in the multi-item knife is a separate factor.
The universal pocket knife includes such instruments as: basic blade, accessory cork-screw, awl, can-opener, bottle opener. This is all. It is preferable, that the basic blade contain a plunger pin with it. The plunge pin of the blade eases the work with a knife and gives protection from cuts, stopping the improperly folded blade. It is preferable that the awl should contain a body-size-hole – such a hole will not complicate the knife appliance (however it will complicate its production) and it is very comfortable to pass a string through and so on works. Among the knives of “Victorinox” a forceps is also fairly placed – which is an item that could not be replaced when necessary for example to get rid of splinters.
In the folding knives for the fixation of the blade in an opened position the knife locks are used.
Types of Locks:
* Linear Lock – for the fixation a flat spring is used which presses the blade. In the modification frame the lock is a part of the handle.
* Back lock – The blade is fixed with the help of a lever from the butt side, from the other side the lever presses the spring, placed in the handle.
* AXIS lock, Arc-lock, Plunger lock – in these the blade is fixed with a movable axis and others.
The original Swedish quality and utility army knives from the supplier of the Swedish army company Wenger are very popular. A total control of quality occurs when they are made as they are hand assembled knives and the working efficiency of all elements are checked.
