Thank you Newsy. I must have forgot to add a bracket or something. Another thing. The original size of this chop is around 711 KB, 1200 x1600. I reduced it to approx 890 x 1190 and was still at something like 480 KB. So I had to further reduce it to around 700 X 900 just to get it in range of the 250 KB max. This killed the high def quality and really fuzzed it out. Why is it that 890 x 1190 will not compress into just under 250 KB. It's happened a few times before and has me stumped. Thanks for the post.

The poachers DO deserve same treatment. Too bad about the fuzziness issue for your entry.

HS: In PS CS3, you can select "Bicubic sharper (best for reduction)", when reducing an image. Other versions, use "unsharpen mask" or your favorite tonal contrast technique after reducing. Also, you could upload the full size version onto an free anonymous image host like Imageshack and provide the link.

Hmmmm alrightie then, Thanks AZ. I have been scratching my head over this little problem. Most of these chops I do are pretty large in original format to be possibly converted to 20" X 24" poster size and some as high as 48". So when you have that much informatin you expect some degradation in reduction but not quite as much as I've been getting. I'll see if PS6.0 has bicubic sharpening as that is the program I use for finishing and details. Thanks do much for the tip.

PS 6.0 does not, I would suggest getting a 3rd party plugin to sharpen it up after your final resize. I had that same prob with 6.0, but newer versions have improved the compression algorithm. If you want to email you're orginal, I can mail you back and show you the difference.

Yeah, I noticed AZ. Oh well. Plugin sounds like the way to go then. I sent the image to you via the Admin addy. Hope that is not a boo boo. Really appreciate your help....

Great chop Hitster, it should've scored higher in my opinion..

Great work HS. Lots going on in this chop. Love the great white ape. I never have had good luck myself with resizing, I guess I'll be going the same route that AZ suggested. Time to go plugin shopping.

Hey thanks all. Funkwood, they score what they score and won't score no more It's sort of a shame really that the wire the gorilla is made of did not reproduce and actually didn't chop very well. The sculpture is a magnificent work of art that I found surfing, with no hint of who created it. Bummer, I'd love to see an exhibition of that artist's work. See the source pic, it's a little more evident.
