| | Consumption of pizza can reduce the risk of some types of cancer. Researchers from Milan Institute of Pharmacology came to this conclusion after research on more than 8000 Italians, British Daily The Guardian wrote on Monday with reports from Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
According to results of the research, those, who eat pizza a few times a week, are at a lower risk than those, who did not eat it ever.
Eating (Gastronomic) habits of 3315 Italians, suffering from tumor (malignancy) of gastrointestinal tracts or throat, were thoroughly studied and compared with similar records of 5000 patients, suffering from other diseases.
As per the findings of research, risk of mouth cancer reduces by 34% and that of esophagus cancer by 59% in the people who like pizza.
“We knew that the tomato sauce protects the organism from some forms of cancer, but we could not presume that the pizza as a whole can give the body such a strong protection” said Silvano Gallus in an interview to La Repubblica
Meanwhile, Milan epidemiologist Carlo La Vecchia says that the results of research do not mean that the pizza can be eaten to fight the cancer.
He also added that pizza is testimony of life style and food habits, using natural methods of preparation and avoiding industrial production. Besides, the scientist also noted that such properties of tomato sauce were known a long time back. |
