A severe infection that lasted for weeks resulted in the girl weighing about 75 pounds and edging near death when she finally made it to a hospital. On Monday, two days after the mother was arrested, she appeared in court and was ordered by the judge to obtain a psychiatric evaluation to determine if she was fit to stand trial.
