| Professional Photographer:
As Charlie Chaplin often used to say “Even the most brilliant business is nothing without a photograph”. And a saying is in circulation amongst the photographers that being a photographer is the best profession: people die but their photographs remain.
The history of photography dates back to 1839 when it the invention of original image fixing method was announced by Louis Daguerre during a conference of the Academy of sciences and Academy of arts in Paris. Photographic techniques developed in leaps and bounds and an “Instant photo” method, which does not require any type of picture processing, appeared in the beginning of the 20th century. At the same time, rumors appeared that the photographer profession is becoming primitive: select the angle and press the button. However, the photographic process, in most cases, possesses a creative nature. The entire set of principles, which are adopted from other arts and particularly, from paintings, is often used while creating photographs. Apart from this, it is necessary to at least select a lens for photography– and already, this is an art in itself. Professional photographers should own photography technology, basic illumination layouts, the compounding of development and fixing solutions and should be well versed with the properties of photographic materials, chromatics, implementation of color photocopying and retouching. Professionally, artistic taste, color sense, good vision, attentiveness and patience are important qualities.
Paparazzi (Ital. Paparazzo) are press photographers, who take candid photographs from the private life of film and show celebrities and politicians and sell them for huge money. Word appeared after the release of the film “The Sweet Life” (“La Dolce Vita”) by F.Fellini, in which one of the heroes is a photographer Paparazzo (Walter Santesso).
In the Italian language, the word paparazzo means importunate and especially, a bothersome mosquito.
In the given context, the word came into existence after the release of the film F.Fellini’s “The Sweet Life” in 1960, in which the protagonist had a friend, a photographer by the name Paparazzo. Popular Italian photographer and friend of F.Fellini Mr. Tazio Secchiaroli was the prototype of Paparazzo.
The given character was created by the director as an importunate and intrusive photographer, who is similar to a mosquito. Fellini stated that this name was adopted from one of his school friends, who was nicknamed Paparazzo for his fast conversing ability. Later on, this word got changed from the singular “Paparazzo” to the plural “paparazzi” and is also used in other languages in the same manner in regard to photographers who chase celebrities for the sake of a compromising picture.
According to one of the versions of the road accident in Paris on 31.08.1997, in which the British Princess Diana was killed, it was due to the paparazzi which chased her.
The photo-artist is an expert in creating “art photography”.
The term originated from the term “Art Photography” as a result of a formal misunderstanding.
The artificiality of the term “Photo artist” — in mechanical attraction, no artistic value to the creation, accomplished by them – without depending on whether the present creation can possess a value or not. In other words, everything, that the photo artist creates, should automatically and undoubtedly bring in the artistic features.
At present, the specialty “Photo artist” is not included in any state registry of specialties. This specialty is not studied and it can be regulated in any way. This word was not mentioned in most of the dictionaries.
Based on this, everyone has a right to call himself a photo artist without any criteria or obligations.
By calling photo artist, the individual obviously or latently pursues the aims:
* Lifting the personal social status and thereby, probably, compensation of personal professional insufficiency — for example, the absence of special artistic, photo-or humanitarian education, allowing to feel confident within the framework of a chosen credo.
* Speeding up of an estimated number of photographic creations and lifting the price of the product.
Achieving the targets in such a manner, bear the exclusively declarative nature and is in no way connected to the absolute qualities of the creations created by an individual.
Within the limits of pursued purposes, the word “Photo artist” called to bear a semantic load, connected not with the mechanical, automatic, (simply) fixing photography of visible reality and the creation of an author's product with use of such means as a choice of illumination, composition receptions and also the additional processing of footage material.
Thereby, adding “artist” at the end of the word “Photo”, an individual (as if) makes us understand that while creating a creation, he, unlike the (usual) photographer, pays special attention to so-called special creative means, intentionally concealing that use of some or the other techniques (selection of lighting, composition receptions, effector optics, after-shoot processing etc) similar as in the case of their use, is legitimate within the framework of the self-sufficient specialization of “photographer” or “artist”.
On the contrary, adding a prefix “photo” to the word “artist” and thereby stressing upon technical creative means, almost a tautological notion is created, which is similar ( non-existent in language) to a “ clay-sculptor” or “paint-painter”. Insufficient attention, shown towards the use of the term “photo artist” should lead to a formation of similar terminological absurd meanings:
* Photo-photographer —a photographer, who simply photographs and does not process the footage and at times even, does not develops it.
* Artist-photographer — an artist, using fragments of photographic images in his creations or an artist, using a camera.
Thus, the artificial, intended multiplication of entities, observed in the linguistic hybrid “photo artist”, leads to a creation of a terminological mess, conceals the essence of the phenomena and can lead to indistinctness in interpretation of the concepts.
On the assumption of aforesaid, the observable substitution of concepts, expressed in naming someone as a “photo artist” can be regarded as illiteracy with respect to the profession of “photographer”.
