| | This contest is fueled by the following news: |
| | This Tuesday brought more another spin in the pet food recall scandal.
A Canadian factory was found to have used an ingredient tainted with
a poisonous chemical, which already caused pet contaminations and
lethal cases among pets in the United States which were fed the food
of Menu Foods Inc.
Previously the company recalled cat and dog food produced only at its
factories in Kansas and New Jersey - thought to have been the only
ones using the ingredient, wheat gluten, contaminated with a bad industrial chemical
- melamine.
Unfortunately, further tests by Menu Foods have revealed that part of
the contaminated wheat gluten was transported to their factory in
Canada where it was processed and used in pet food production which
made its way to store shelves across US and Canada. The factory is
located in Streetsville, Ontario, and all the dog food and cat food
made there will not be recalled from stores.
Company spokesman stated that the total amount of contaminated food
was less that one percent of its output in December and January. The
tainted wheat gluten was purchased and imported by the Company from
its Chinese business partner.
What adds tension to the case is the statement of FDA of last week
which assured that absolutely no tainted pet food by Menu Foods Inc
made its way to Canada, saying that Canadian dog and cat food products were
safe to consume. "What a shock it was to learn this week that this was
not the case, and we could have prevented further poisoning of pets in
Canada," says the ceo of "Royal Canin Canada."
Menu Foods was one of the six companies which were affected by the
contaminated wheat gluten they were buying from China. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) blocked any further imports of Chinese wheat
gluten until investigation on how industrial melamine could have
gotten into their vegetable protein.
Meanwhile veterinarians across the US noted a thirty percent increase
in kidney failure among cats and dogs during the three months when
tainted pet food was sold in the United States. Analysts thing that the
total sad effects of pet contamination is yet to be seen.
Most important advice on choosing a pet:
Before acquiring a puppy, kitten or any other pet, seriously analyze the possibilities, desire to have a pet. Quite often, the decision to acquire a pet is taken without considering about the care and keeping. And as a result soon after a dog, kitten or small fishes are brought in the apartment, it is found, that the conditions necessary for keeping the pet are not present, there is nobody to look after them, and they become not friends, but burden. Especially often this happens in the families, where pets are brought not because of love towards them, but in pursuit of fashion or for the sake of satisfying the caprice of child. It is good, if such mistakes are taken care of in time.
Mice and rats used earlier only as experimental animals, these days are gaining popularity as pets. Many thousand years ago, mice were kept as pets in Egypt and China. White mice were considered as sacred animals. In the east there were multicolored and dancing mice. These clever and sociable animals can find a way out of the different situations, they constantly communicate with the help of sounds and movements of body and therefore it is very interesting to observe them. Exactly, this attracts the lovers of animals towards these small animals.
There are more than 130 known types of mice. These small animals can live in house conditions up to 5 years. Mice possess fine sense of smell and hearing. Among themselves they communicate by very subtle peep. Rat in captivity usually lives for 3 years. Wild gray mice live in communities. |
