| Penélope Cruz Sánchez (Born April 28 1974, Madrid, Spain) is a Spanish actress, winner of an “Oscar” award in 2009 for Best Supporting Actress in the film “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, popular first of all for Pedro Almodovar’s films.
Biography:
Penelope Cruz was born on April 28, 1974 in Madrid, in a small trader and hairdresser family. Since childhood, she took great interest in dances and jazz and from the age of nine, she became a student of Spain’s National Conservatory, where she learnt classical ballet and later on seriously took great interest in dances and attended various dancing courses. At the age of 15, she started acting in television shows and music clips and debuted in the film “The Greek Labyrinth”.
In 1992, the film “Belle Epoque” was released with her, which was nominated for national awards and was nominated by the American Film Academy as the Best Foreign film. But Penelope rose to popularity only in 1997 after acting in the films “Live Flesh” and “Open Your Eyes”.
In 1999, the Cannes Film Festival opened with Almodovar's film “All About My Mother” with Penelope Cruz’s participation. After this, the actress started acting in films with popular actors such as Matt Damon (“All the Pretty Horses”), Johnny Depp (“Cocaine”), Nicholas Cage (“Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”), Salma Hayek (“Bandidas”), Tom Cruise (“Vanilla Sky”) etc. Penelope Cruz was romantically linked with Tom Cruise for three years (2001—2004).
The sister of Penelope is Monica Cruz whi is also an actress and dancer.
