 With a scant two days to for before the annual Academy Awards ceremony, the media is all awash with the buzz about what is shaping up to be the most controversial Oscars event in decades. The controversy arises not only from the fact that a leading contender for best picture is the gay cowboy love story played out in "Brokeback Mountain," but the other four nominees for best picture are also poltically charged. For example, there is "Good Night and Good Luck" which recounts the McCarthy Era. There is "Crash" which delves into the powder kegof racism in Los Angeles. In addition, there us another gay drama in "Capote" about the relationship between homosexual writer Truman Capote and a multiple murderer he develops a friendship with in 1960s Kansas. Finally, Steven Spielberg weighs in with "Munich," a thriller that recounts the violent conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. |
