| | Fidel Castro has inspired a 120 Years Club in Cuba. The program is designed to help Cubans to live to a ripe old age. One of the members of the Club is said to be 119. Benito Martinez Abagan, the 119 year old chap, says he was born in Haiti in 1880. He came to work in Cuba in the sugar cane fields and as a road builder in 1925. The documents that Abagan possesses actually indicate he is 123 -- but they are questionable. Experts on the island say that Abagan is at least 119. Authenticated records indicate that the world's oldest man is a Puerto Rican who is 113.
At present, if aging of organism is impossible to prevent but, to some extent, it is possible to control the time of onset and speed of spreading to entire organism by transforming old age into not so painful, not so full of illness and agony and converting the long 20-25 summer-like period into beautiful section of our journey, filled with vital wisdom, dedicated to grandchildren and great grandchildren, family matters and to understand the depth of existence.
With age, even with good state of health, it is necessary to avoid possible overloads. Productive work brings benefits since productive work brings only positive emotions, which activate the protective mechanisms, favorably act upon the state of cardiovascular and nervous systems. Per se, any balanced activity — training, mental and physical exercises, to maintain the withering body.
Special attention should be paid to diet in old age. It is known that excessive eating or high calorie diet accelerates the aging process.
Old age is a beautiful period of life, which allows passing on knowledge and skills to several generations if the state of health is in good condition. |
