| Each one of us at least once in our life time has woken up due to a frightful dream. The majority of people call any type of terrible dream a “nightmare”. However, experts precisely differentiate two conditions: nightmares and night fears.
A terrible dream, which occurs during sleep with quick movements of the eyeballs and when the person wakes up and tries to recollect the dream, it's called a nightmare. Irrespective of the absurdity of the topic, the absurdity of the situation, similar dreams are always very dynamic and frightening. Though such dreams are simply terrible, they usually are not accompanied by essential physiological reactions in the form of strong perspiration, rapid pulse and increased breathing. More often, nightmares occur late at night. It is known that the terrible dreams, which were dreamt at night, have served as the topics for many stories by Edgar Poe.
Nightmares often disturb small children. Fortunately, nightmares occur even in adult people though very rarely although very few people can avoid them completely. It is difficult to specify the exact reason for the occurrence of a frightening dream. It is clear that disturbed and shaken people encounter nightmares more often than the lucky ones, who successfully cope with the stresses of modern life.
Periodically occurring nightmares do not require any medical help. If nightmares occur regularly, then, possibly, you are being disturbed by some unresolved psychological problem, probably even at a sub conscious level. If so, then it is necessary to take medical help. A simple discussion with an expert about the content of the nightmares and vital problems will help in boosting the self-confidence and the digression of the nightmares. Sometimes, it is necessary to resort to more difficult methods: psychotherapy and hypnosis.
Nightmares, likely, occur in each one of us at some point in time. The characteristic elements that exist in the nightmare, usually lead to the nightmare classification. The person abruptly gets up from bed dripping with a cold sweat, associated with an aggravated and frightful fear. It is not necessary to remember the dream since the dream can disappear very quickly, though, as a rule, it is remembered well and for a long time. Such a condition itself speaks about the occurrence of the nightmare and sometimes about the necessity for the analysis and review of a previous life. |
