| | In spite of what most of the fans of Nicole Kidman do think that she was born in Australia, the actress was actually born in the U.S. state of Hawaii, in Honolulu. Her father was a biochemist as per the profession, during those days engaged in various investigations in the territory of U.S.A and after several years of daughter’s birth the family lived in Washington. However, when the job was over, parents of Nicole decided to go back to their relatives – in Australia.
Already in the childhood Nicole has developed artistic skills – from 3rd year she took up ballet, attended musical classes, and towards 10th year she started going to drama school, after which she started acting in youth theatres.
At 14 years Nicole debuted on TV, after followed more television series out of which the mini series “Vietnam and Bangkok Hilton” has gotten her most popularity in Australia. This TV sitcom is well familiar to the international viewers.
Next great success of the actress would be considered the film of Phillip Nois - Dead Calm, 1989, after which Nicole was recognized in the Hollywood at last. Director Tony Scott invited her for a role of Tom Cruise’s beloved in the picture - Days of Thunder, 1990. He probably would not have expected that this love smoothly flows from the screen into life and ends with the marriage of the actors. After 2 years Tom and Nicole again appeared together in the picture Far and Away, 1992, which regretfully, did not justify the hopes of its creators.
For a great while film critics did not receive Nicole seriously; however they had to change their opinion after the release of the picture of Has Van Saint, To Die For, 1995 and The Portrait of a Lady, 1996, in which Kidman demonstrated her splendid acting skills.
But Nicole hung up on intellectual film and got shot with George Clooney in The Peace Maker, 1997 and with Sandra Bullock in romantic film Practical Magic, 1998. These films weren’t greatly enjoyed in the public, big attention was given when she came back to the theatrical stage. Stage play Blue room, in which Nicole acted in few roles, one of which had the scene, where actress had to stand in front of the public, went house full in the theatres of London and New York and got very good comments from critics.
Much murmur was around 3rd combined picture of Nicole and Tom Cruise – films of Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut, 1999, shootings of which were done in the atmosphere of total secrecy, however this film in result, received contradicting comments from critics and hasn’t got big popularity in the distribution.
In the year 2000, Nicole took part in the shootings of the film of Bas Lurman Mullen Rouge, which were done in her native – Australia. It's unknown, whether she had any romance during the shootings, however as she returned to U.S.A in the year 2001 relations between Nicole and her husband Tom Cruise eagerly degenerated and the pair, after being together almost 10 years took decision to divorce. However this didn’t have any negative effect for the career of the actress and her new film, shot by Spanish director Alexandro Amenabar (Others) was a big hit with the public, whereas her role in Mullen Rouge’s film was upheld by critics of Golden Globe for nomination as the best actress in a musical film. |
